We didn’t arrive at this commitment abstractly. Ife’s journey began in the depths of meditation practice in India, then carried into degrees at consciousness-based universities — always asking how inner transformation could hold up under the weight of real, physical, societal life. Raised celebrating Kwanzaa and, thus, reflecting on the Nguzo Saba, she set out to find a umoja (unity) that could actually be lived, not just believed. Lev’s path lead him through deserts and jungles across multiple continents, studying, apprenticing, and integrating a foundation massage, bodywork, martial, and energetic arts, Kabbalah, Indigenous African healing, and Capoeira Angola — learning, again and again, that the body itself remembers how to be well as part of our design.
Wellness is where it starts — not as the absence of illness, but as a return to what’s true beneath it. We call the opposite pattern d.i.s.ease: the delusion of division, the invocation of illness, the sustaining of scarcity — the old story that we are separate, broken, and without enough. We’ve lived long enough inside that story to know it isn’t true. W.i.s.dom is the conscious turn away from it.
Interconnection is why this is a family project and not a solo mission. Ife and Lev — two people, two lineages of healing knowledge, one household. It’s why the work happens through GatherWell, built to bring people back into gathering places, back around water, back into proximity with each other to honor the fact that we are always all connected.
Sovereignty is what we’re raising our sons inside of. We trust that every act of healing we do ripples backward and forward — that every success heals generations of trauma — and we watch Pèlé and Aiyé daily, doing our best to protect the spark every child is born with rather than train it out of them.
This performance is not separate from that daily practice. It’s the same story, sung out loud.
